In November, we will share stories about First Lutheran's Generations of Generosity. I was recently given a copy of A Prelude to the Future, which is the story of First from 1888-1978 by Beata Prochnow Mazade. It is filled with story after story of First's people becoming the Heart of Christ in the Heart of the City by giving generously to God's glory in this place. During times of blessing and times of challenge, through depressions, wars, urban decline, and social upheaval, the generations of First continued in God's good grace to live lives of generosity. These stories inspired me to realize that every congregation Ive ever belonged to depended on the faithful giving of those who came before me. That inspires me to know that the generation who follows will one day be blessed by my giving today.
The legacy of generosity is alive and well at First. Over the past five years, despite many challenges, we have bridged the deficit budgets of the past. First, we broke even, then excelled, and now we are moving forward into Gods future for First. Over the next four Sundays, you will hear stories of faith, risk, miracles, and blessings, and you will be invited to make the story come alive today for the generations of tomorrow.
